This week is set to be a busy one although not as busy as we had hoped, with two out of three of our Royal Ascot runners unable to take their palce in the line up due to niggling issues - one slightly sore back and the other has a pulse to a foot and, depiste us working our socks off for the past 36 hours tubbing, polticing, hot/ cold etc we are still lame this morning. This years Derby winner did something very similar but managed to run. We haven't been so lucky, or have we? Usually these things happen for the best even if it does not feel like that at the time.
Persistent , localised and heavy rain has put other racing plans in doubt and we will undoubtedly have several non runners across the week. The rain has been so heavy in places (Leicester on Saturday was heavy and lucky to pass an inspection). At home we are thankful for the rain because the gallops needed it, we were ready to fire up the watering system which can add hours onto our day so receiving the wet stuff from above is always preferable, not to mention cheaper!
Rowan has clearly been a bit worried about the deluges and has taken it upon himself to be well prepared for any flash floods. Not sure if it will look right over jockey silks though?
