This time last year 'Scruffy McGuffy' was an aptly named individual, always seeming to have a mane full of straw and a tail littered with shavings. Not so anymore. This year he has grown and developed into a handsome and strong three-year-old, with plenty of size and scope about him. We were delighted to see him win when scoring at Redcar on Saturday, PJ had him dropped in nicely before gradually making his way past the opposition finding himself right up there with a furlong to run. Displaying a positive attiutude, Scruffy got up to win by half a length.

In other equestrian news, the remarkable William Fox-Pitt is currently sitting in gold medal postion at the Rio Olympics, only 10 months since suffering a horrific fall that left him in a coma. As far as come backs go, this would surely be amongst the most incredible, especially if William were to secure a gold, but either way his dedication and tenacity can only be admired and he is a wonderful reminder of just what can be achieved in the face of adversity.
