Days like today it would be handy to have Noah's number on speed-dial - place on his Ark would be ideal. We've seen what can only be described as a deluge today, relenteless rainfall with no sign of easing anytime soon. An evening in front of the fire finishing off the last of the Christmas chocolate is on the cards. Luckily, unlike a hard frost, rain rarely stops play so far as training horses goes, not when you're lucky enough to have the facilities we have here at Sun Hill. In fact, even when we did have the very cold spell recently, the lunge ring and water treadmill kept all the horses ticking over and probably freshened a couple of them up. Racing has already been forced to reschedule the Welsh National meeting from last weekend to this due to a water-logged Chepstow and with Lingfield calling off tomorrow's meeting two days ahead of time for the same reason, it wouldn't be a surprise to see more jump meetings abandoned over the next few days.
Sun Hill's staff avoided soggy bottoms today, what with Thursdays being a 'day of rest' for the horses but working outdoors in torrential rain is none too pleasant either way so well done to them for grafting hard as always, whatever the weather.
