One minute Christmas was coming, now its passed us by for another year. The old adage that time goes quicker as we get older is right, but then again it does the same when we're are having fun! This Christmas was indeed, fun but it might have been better if the dreaded lurgy had stayed away. The sore throat, head cold and blocked sinuses have continued for several weeks without improvement, it is little wonder that people and animals everywhere have been full of viruses.
What we really need is a lengthy, bitterly cold spell and if the past two days are anything to go by we might just be in for some serious icy blasts. Sun Hill and its surrounding area reached minus 7 last night and everywhere looked gloriously white all day with temperatures remaining at minus 2 during the day. The gallop was useable - just but Catterick races paid the price yesterday when frost refused to leave the ground.
The horses however, look tremendous under the new lights, the top barn is switched on but the bottom barn is not quite finished. The cold air and easy time over Christmas has resulted in them being incredibly fresh and its almost time to get many of them started again with some light work.
