Our annual yearling/ end of season/ owners day took on a new twist yesterday when we decided to hold a smaller, more intimate winter gathering. It was easier to manage, less work and a lot less stressful, the horses looked great and, like all of us they appreciated the bright blue clear skies. And, while the horses are always the highlight of the day it must be said that the chicken curry dishes prepared for us by one of the lads "Pradeep" (a very good chef in his own right) stole the show. No longer were our guests commenting on the lovely chestnut filly, the cheeky grey, the racy chestnut colt, the tall imposing son of Bungleinthejungle, the bargain buy Stimulation filly, the lucky new owner of the Roderick O'Connor filly or the fabulous racy Mayson filly. Oh NO they were all full of praise for Pradeeps curry! It was simply delicious.
The day was light hearted and fun, we drank too much bubbly and ate mince pies kindly bought for the staff by Canfords Joy's owners John and Jackie Dwyer whose bakery also makes Georges favourite bread. Luckily for the staff they got into the house in time to eat some themselves while polishing the stollen and other gooey cakes off at breakfast this morning.
It is very handy having owners who can contriubute to the yard in ways as well as supporting us as owners. In fact we should introduce loyalty cards like the ones they have in superstores.
"Come to Sun Hill and buy your racehorses, bread, cars, houses, kitchens, bathrooms, carpets, chemicals, steel, Lamb, fish, bacon, garden design even hospitals!" Buying racehorses has never represented such good value has it? What a bargain...........................
