This season is nowhere near over but already our minds are looking towards next season with the seemingly 'earlier than ever Premier Yearling and Silver sales' at Goffs - Doncaster taking place this week. 655 horses were catalogued for the three days of trade and what a brisk one it was too, I don’t believe I have ever quite witnessed, or felt the same “buzz” at Doncaster ever before and it is clear the amalgamation with Goff’s some years ago is having the desired effect.
There were more trainers than usual present from both England and Ireland as well as large numbers of smaller racing countries looking to fill orders and, between them the clearance rate was an impressive 87% but is it any wonder? Yearlings bought at Doncaster achieve great results on the race track year in and year out, with the cheaper “Silver sale” on the final day also producing Group 1 performers- for a fraction of the cost at some other sales. The sale is fantastic for owners looking for “real value” and Doncaster has become synonymous with that phrase in recent years.
George and I spent Sunday viewing horses as well as being in attendance each day and are delighted with the thirteen yearlings who have made their way back to the farm and are settling in nicely. Information and details on them all will appear very soon on the website but, in short we have the following gorgeous youngsters in our care. Some are already owned, Craig Buckingham who bought our superstar 95 rated “Rainbow Mist “at this sale last year for just £12,000 was back in action this week buying some real crackers which George and I were delighted to be able to cast our eyes over, not that Craig needs much help- he is more than capable of buying nice horses himself and has a tremendous track record.
Rosamund and Elizabeth Stott are experienced horse-women in their own right and have a great “eye” for a horse, they too kept George and I on our toes and gave us some hilarious moments, their new filly is a stunner- even if they did give her an unfortunate nick name initially, but I will be keeping that to myself until the appropriate time! Her most recent – and rather more ladylike nickname is “Goldie” because her birthday is shared with many of our Gold medal winners at the Rio Olympic games (March 23rd).
Our haul comprises of ten colts by Power, Lethal Force, Equiano, Zebedee, Canford Cliffs, Harbour Watch, Lilbourne Lad (two) Foxwedge, and Fast Company. The three fillies are by Helmet,Paco Boy and Equiano.
More on them very soon……………………….
