Our holiday cottage provides luxury accommodation and is ideal for a relaxing break exploring the Yorkshire Dales, with Calendar Girls and Herriot country not far way. Racing breaks can be booked, tours of the racing yard organised, and horses watched on the training gallops. Bustling Leyburn is only 3 miles away, with York and Harrogate easily accessible for a day trip. An excellent pub, The Wyvill Arms , serves good food only a mile down a quiet country lane and there are many renowned restaurants nearby including The Blue Lion at East Witton, the Sandpiper in Leyburn and the Friars Head at Akebar. It is also well worth a look around the shops in the market towns of Richmond, Leyburn & Bedale and no stay at Sun Hill should pass without a trip to the Dales town of Hawes.

Accommodation

A good sized entrance hall provides plenty of room to kick off those wellies after a long relaxing walk in the fresh air of the Yorkshire Dales.

Sun Hill cottage | The Lounge

The lounge, accessed through an old stone archway, is a warm cosy room in which to relax, with a stone built open fire. Patio doors lead out onto the secluded rear garden, a beautiful place to sit by the stream and watch the sunset or in the winter months to enjoy the snow covered hill tops by the glow of the fire.

Sun Hill cottage | The Kitchen

The spacious kitchen has an oil-fired Aga along with a dishwasher, fridge freezer and all the pots and pans you may need. For those who love cooking the Aga will be a real treat and fresh ingredients and local produce can be picked up in the markets held weekly in Richmond, Leyburn and Bedale.

Sun Hill cottage | The Bedroom

The cottage sleeps 4 people and the two bedrooms are both en-suite. The double bedroom has a bathroom with a large cubicle power shower, the twin room (which can be made into a double) has a bath. Both bedrooms are beautifully furnished with comfortable beds to ensure a good night's sleep after a day out in the invigorating Yorkshire dales air.

The cottage kitchen is well stocked with the usual array of condiments, sauces, spices, tea, coffee and sugar.

Out & About

There are plenty of activities to choose from and something to suit all tastes. From the ancient castles of Richmond, Castle Bolton & Middleham to the super shops of York & Harrogate through to the thrills of the world famous Lightwater Valley Theme park or breathtaking scenery and walking in the Dales.

Eating out is never a problem as there are plenty of local pubs within a short drive that provide a warm welcome and serve fine cuisine or perhaps you would be happiest simply strolling down to the local Wyvill Arms where the hosts will make you very welcome and whose restaurant produces food which is amongst the finest in the area.

Middleham Castle - Yorkshire Dales

Of course for the racing enthusiast you will be able to have a guided tour around the yard, watch thoroughbreds grazing in the paddocks and watch the horses early morning exercise on the gallops. There are also of a number of racecourses within easy travelling distance, including Catterick, Ripon and Thirsk on the doorstep. Racing days can often be organised on your behalf which may include entrance badges onto the course and lunch booked for you. The historic Middleham training centre is only 3 miles further up the dale and a popular visit for racing enthusiasts.

Rules of the house

The cottage is not suitable for very young children. Well behaved young people are very welcome but all pets must be left at home. We also request all visitors to refrain from smoking inside the cottage.
