Racehorse Ownership with Ann Duffield Racing

Deciding who you want to train your racehorse is as big a decision - if not bigger - than choosing the horse itself. It is important that you find a trainer you are comfortable with, whom you know will put your horse first wherever possible on and off the track, and one that makes the thrill of racehorse ownership a real pleasure.

Ann Duffield - Racehorse Ownership

At Ann Duffield Racing, one of the friendliest yards in racing, you are guaranteed the warmest of welcomes. Whether you are an existing owner or new to the sport you will find everyone at the yard professional and approachable, ensuring that both you and your horse are properly looked after.

Ann holds a dual Jockey Club licence that allows her to train under both codes of racing (flat & jumps) and is always available to discuss your ownership requirements for yearlings, store horses and horses that have previous racing experience.

Ann is more than happy to act on your behalf during the purchase of a horse. She will give guidance on its value and confirmation, can arrange for the vet's examination and provide transport to get the horse safely back to Sun Hill Farm. Provided that the horse goes in to training with Ann Duffield Racing, there is no charge for this service.

Gill Richardson - Bloodstock Agent
Ann also works very closely with top bloodstock agent Gill Richardson (pictured left), one of the most successful and well respected agents in the country who has been responsible for purchasing top class stock with many group and listed winners including Royal Ascot winners to her credit. Using the services of Gill provides Ann with another expert opinion when sourcing horses with potential. If you are looking to buy, you may like to take the opportunity of looking at the current 'Horses For Sale' section of the website.

As an owner you are always welcome to visit the yard. One of the pleasures of racehorse ownership is seeing your horse progress on the gallops before it is ready for the challenge of the racecourse. All owners can take advantage of renting the holiday cottage allowing you to spend a short break or longer at Sun Hill, getting to know your horse and the staff as well as enjoying days out at local racecourses such as Catterick, Ripon and Thirsk and exploring the Yorkshire Dales.

Ownership packages at Sun Hill Farm fall in to a number of categories detailed below, all of which offer different experiences of racehorse ownership. There are packages to suit most budgets and whichever method you choose you can be sure that owning a horse in training here will provide you with real interest and excitement as you too become part of Ann Duffield Racing.

Ann Duffield - Winning Ownership

Sole Ownership
You will own 100% of the horse and as such would be responsible for all of the costs associated with the purchase and training on the horse. In return you would also receive all of the profits the horse may make on the racecourse and/or from any future sale. The horse will run in your own colours and - if it has not already been registered - you can name the horse. If you are entering sole ownership for the first time Ann will happily guide you through all of the steps required to formally register yourself as an owner and answer any questions you may have.

Corporate Ownership
With corporate ownership the horse is owned by the company's shareholders and the company must appoint a Registered Agent to act on its behalf. This is a great way of promoting a company, perhaps the horse will be named after the company and could be a constant source of national advertising, particularly if it gets to the winners enclosure. The horse may generate interest with both customers and employees and the company may be able to benefit from applicable VAT and sponsorship packages.

Joint ownership
A horse can be owned by between 2 and 12 individuals and the horse can run in either a joint ownership's name or the name of a joint owner. This form of ownership is usually best suited to a very small group of people where each member wants to be registered as an owner in their own right.

Racing Partnerships
These consist of between 2 and 20 individuals; of which at least 2 must become, or already be, registered owners.

Sun Hill Farm Partnership
Ann or Ian takes care of setting up and running such partnerships for up to four people and Sun Hill Farm often becomes a co-owner in the partnership. This means all the administration of running the partnership is dealt with by Ann or Ian leaving the members free to enjoy all the thrills of racehorse ownership!

Social Group
It is also possible for a group of friends to get together and start up a partnership and share all of the costs and any profits. One or more members will have to set up and run the partnership and deal with all of the administration, but Ann is never far away to offer a helping hand when needed.

Others
There may be places available in existing partnerships within Ann Duffield Racing that are looking to recruit additional members. Contact Ann to see if there are any currently available. You might also want to have a look at the following racing syndicates which value Ann as one of their trainers and currently have horses in the yard.

Middleham Park Racing
Middleham Park Racing (MPR) was formed in 1995 and has had winners every year since then, with 2005 their most successful season. MPR offer a very friendly service and always welcome calls from their racehorse syndicates owners. They prefer to make the racehorse syndicates as close to 100% ownership as possible; for instance you would receive full owners entitlements (paddock and winner's enclosure) and all prize money is paid directly to racehorse syndicate owners as the yard receives it from Weatherby's rather than waiting until the end of the year. Regular social functions and stable visits are arranged for racehorse syndicates and members are always welcome to visit Sun Hill Farm at their own convenience. There are currently shares available in two well bred unnamed 2-y-o fillies by Alhaarth and Dr Fong. You can also take a look at MPR's own web site for additional information on the service.
